La Maison de La Joie (Joyful House), today.
La Maison de La Joie (Joyful House) is a family-home for children as orphans or in difficult situations and for women expelled from their clan-group.
La Maison is now home to children and women. It is also a place to go for many other young girls in need, which offers them shelter and protection for longer or shorter periods.
Children who are welcomed and live in the house are orphans or abandoned children. They are heirs to an unfortunate ancient local tradition whereby parents, not knowing how to raise them, entrust their children to their richest relatives to give them the opportunity to study. Often in case of necessity these children are abandoned.
Despite its extreme economic constraints, The House is doing his best to give them an existence hardly worthy to be called a life giving them a home, an education and the opportunity to build a future for themselves.
Some women live in the house with the children. They are wives or mothers, expelled from their extended families because they are not willing to submit to the often brutal, wills of their husbands.
